    Matthew J. Cox was appointed chairman of the board of Matson, Inc. in April 2017. Having served as chief executive officer since 2012, Cox oversees the entire Matson organization, which includes Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (ocean transportation), Matson Logistics, Inc. (logistics and supply chain services), and Matson Terminals, Inc. (terminal operations in Hawaii). He has served on the board of directors of Matson, Inc. since 2012.

    Cox joined Matson in June 2001 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. In 2005, he became executive vice president and chief operating officer and had a key role in the start up of Matson’s China – Long Beach Express in 2006. In 2008, he became president.

    Prior to Matson, Cox had 15 years of experience in the transportation industry. From 1999 to 2001, he held executive posts at Distribution Dynamics, Inc., a provider of outsourced logistics, inventory management and integrated information systems based in Danville, Calif. Cox held positions of increasing responsibility at American President Lines, Ltd. (APL), from 1987 to 1999, covering financial and operational aspects of the company.

    Cox serves on the boards of Move Oahu Forward, Catholic Charites Hawaii, Foodland Super Market LTD, and World Shipping Council. He is also a member of the Hawaii Business Roundtable and the Shidler College of Business Advisory Council at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Cox has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program graduate.

    Mr. Kuriyama was Chairman of Alexander & Baldwin, Honolulu, Hawaii (NYSE:ALEX) from June 2012 to September 2020. He was Chief Executive Officer of Alexander & Baldwin from January 2010 to December 2015 and executive Chairman of Alexander & Baldwin from January 2016 to December 2016. As the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alexander & Baldwin, Mr. Kuriyama brings to the Board an in-depth knowledge of Hawaii and Matson’s operating markets. From September 2009 to June 2012, he also served as a Director and Chairman of the Board of the Company’s subsidiary, Matson Navigation Company prior to the Company’s separation from Alexander & Baldwin, and is knowledgeable about all aspects of the Company’s operations. Mr. Kuriyama also has extensive involvement in the Hawaii business community and local community organizations.

    Ms. Lau was President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (“HEI”), Honolulu, Hawaii (NYSE:HE) from May 2006 to December 2021. She was also Chairman of the Board and Director of American Savings Bank, F.S.B., a subsidiary of HEI, from May 2006 to December 2021, and a Director of Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc., a subsidiary of HEI, from May 2006 to May 2019. As the former President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of HEI, a large, publicly-traded Hawaii corporation, and as the former Chair of the Board of HEI’s banking subsidiary, Ms. Lau brings to the Board experience with capital intensive infrastructure and regulated industries as well as in managing complex business organizations. She also serves as Chair, National Infrastructure Advisory Council, which advises the President of the United States on the security of critical infrastructure sectors, including transportation, and their information systems. In addition, Ms. Lau has extensive experience in the banking industry and has been designated by the Board of Directors as an Audit Committee Financial Expert. She also is knowledgeable about Hawaii and Matson’s operating markets through her involvement in the Hawaii business community and local community organizations.
