John Lauer

    John P. Lauer

    John Lauer is Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. In this post, Lauer is responsible for sales, marketing, customer service, pricing and government services for the ocean transportation division of Matson.

    Lauer has more than 30 years of experience in the maritime industry. He joined Matson in 2007 as director, transpacific services, and has had a leadership role in establishing Matson as the premier service oriented carrier in the Pacific. Lauer was promoted to vice president, transpacific services, in 2012.

    Prior to Matson, Lauer worked for APL for 19 years in a succession of positions with increasing responsibility in Chicago, Houston, Denver, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and New Jersey. Some of his key roles at APL included vice president, eastern region; managing director, western region sales; and director of sales, Hong Kong/S PRC. Lauer has a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame.


    Peter Heilmann

      Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel

      Peter T. Heilmann is Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of Matson, Inc. He is responsible for overseeing all of Matson's legal, legislative and human resources activities. His accomplishments include handling the separation from Alexander and Baldwin and Matson’s transition to a publicly traded company, the acquisitions of Horizon Lines’ Alaska business and Span Alaska, and the resolution of significant litigation matters favorable to the company.

      Heilmann joined Matson in 2012 as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, and served as Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer from 2014 to 2017. Prior to Matson, Heilmann had 20 years of legal experience in private practice, including over 10 years as a partner of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in San Francisco. At Gibson Dunn, he had extensive experience representing public and private companies in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic investments as well as counseling boards of directors and senior management on corporate and business law matters, including SEC public reporting requirements and corporate governance. He has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California, Davis and a law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley.

      Joel Wine

        Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

        Joel M. Wine is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Matson, Inc. overseeing all financial matters, including accounting, financial reporting and compliance functions, as well as corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, treasury and investor relations. Previously, he was the senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.

        Wine joined Alexander & Baldwin in September 2011 after fourteen years at Goldman Sachs where he was a managing director in investment banking. At Goldman Sachs, Wine provided strategic and financial advice to a broad spectrum of companies across the nation, including companies in the transportation and real estate sectors. Alexander & Baldwin was among Wine's portfolio of clients since 2002.

        Wine holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago.

        Rusty Rolfe

          President, Matson Logistics

          Rusty Rolfe is President of Matson Logistics, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Matson, Inc. Rolfe's responsibilities encompass overseeing all facets of the company's logistics services, including domestic and international rail intermodal service, long haul and regional highway brokerage, supply chain services and LTL transportation services, as well as third-party logistics services that include warehousing, distribution, and international freight forwarding.

          Rolfe joined Matson Logistics in December 2001 as Executive Vice President. Prior to Matson Logistics, Rolfe had 19 years of experience in the transportation industry, 11 of which were spent at American President Lines, Ltd., (APL). From 2000 to 2001, Rolfe was president of RISS/USSI, a division of Worldpoint Logistics. He also worked in the LTL and rail industries with Milne Truck Lines, Viking Freight and Consolidation Rail Corporation. Rolfe has held both operations and sales management positions throughout his career.

          Ronald Forest

            Ronald J. Forest

            Ronald J. Forest was appointed President of Matson on April 27, 2017. He is responsible for all of the company's operations, including vessels, terminals, container equipment, labor relations, purchasing and engineering.

            Forest's career in the maritime industry began in 1978, including eight years with APL and nine years with United States Lines. His Matson career began in 1995 as operations manager, Southern California. He was promoted in 1996 to area manager, Northern California, and was made a vice president of Matson Navigation Company in 1998. That same year he assumed the responsibility of overseeing the company's labor relations and was later promoted to vice president, area manager, Southern California.

            In 2000, Forest was promoted to president and chief executive officer of Matson Logistics and transferred to Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. As head of Matson Logistics, Forest was responsible for overseeing the management and continued growth of Matson's largest subsidiary. In 2002, Forest transferred back to Matson as head of the company's operations division, as well as overseeing Matson's investment in SSAT, a West Coast stevedoring joint venture with SSA Marine. He was promoted to senior vice president in 2003.

            Forest has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California, Irvine. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. He serves on the board of directors of the Pacific Maritime Association. He also serves on the boards of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, the Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross, the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association, and the Oakland Chamber of Commerce.

            Vic Angoco

              Senior Vice President, Pacific

              Vic Angoco is Senior Vice President of the Pacific division of Matson. In this position, Angoco has a key role in overseeing all aspects of Matson's core market, Hawaii, as well as the Guam trade. He also serves as executive vice president of the Matson subsidiary, Matson Terminals, Inc. In addition to his contribution to the company's business operations, Angoco represents Matson in a wide range of community service activities, as well as serving in leadership roles pertaining to the modernization of Hawaii's harbors and the Port of Guam's infrastructure improvements.

              Angoco, who is originally from Guam, has been in the maritime industry since 1990, and has held a wide range of operations and sales management positions. He joined Matson in 1996 as manager, operations, Guam, and soon after was promoted to manager, sales/customer service. As part of a management development program, Angoco transferred to San Francisco in 2001 and was promoted to manager, national accounts and eastern area sales. In 2002, he was promoted again to manager, container operations and transferred to Honolulu. In 2004, he joined Young Brothers, Ltd./Hawaiian Tug & Barge as vice president, sales and marketing and was promoted to vice president and general manager in 2005. In 2006, he was promoted to senior vice president. He returned to Matson later that year as country manager, Guam. He returned to Hawaii as vice president, Pacific, in 2008, was promoted to senior vice president in 2010.

              Prior to joining Matson, he worked for American President Lines (APL) for four years as manager, operations, Guam, and worked for Sea-Land Services in Guam from 1990 to 1992 as operations manager.

              Angoco has a bachelor's degree in business management from Oregon State University.

              Matthew Cox

                Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
                Matthew J. Cox is Chairman and CEO of Matson, Inc. He was appointed Chairman of the Board in April 2017 and became CEO in June 2012. Cox is responsible for overseeing the entire Matson organization, which includes Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (ocean transportation), Matson Logistics, Inc. (logistics) and Matson Terminals, Inc. (terminal operations in Hawaii). In addition to his Matson responsibilities, Cox is on the board of SSAT, a stevedoring joint venture in which Matson owns 35 percent. Cox joined Matson in June 2001 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. In 2005, he became executive vice president and chief operating officer. He had a key role in the start up of Matson's China – Long Beach Express in 2006. He served as President from 2008 to 2017. Prior to Matson, Cox had 15 years of experience in the transportation industry, 12 of which were spent at American President Lines, Ltd. (APL). From 1999 to 2001, he held executive posts at Distribution Dynamics, Inc., a provider of outsourced logistics, inventory management and integrated information systems based in Danville, California; he was the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer at the time he joined Matson. From 1987 to 1999, Cox held positions of increasing responsibility at APL, covering both financial and operational aspects of the company, including vice president, refrigerated container market; managing director, Middle East, Africa, Indian Subcontinent Region Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and director, financial support services. Cox serves on the board of First Hawaiian Bank. He is also a member of the Hawaii Business Roundtable, Inc. and the Shidler College of Business Advisory Council at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Cox has a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from the University of California, Berkeley and is a certified public accountant; he is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.
